| Submitted by Jon Thompson 9:38 on 17 December 2004 | | Has any body read Armageddon from Max Hastings? Can any body comment? | Submitted by Mike Licari 23:11 on 22 December 2004 | I just finished it last week. I thought it was really good, as Hastings was able to blend in several different approaches to studying the last year (Holocaust, civilians, quality of armies, command and military leadership, political decisions). The product is a fair critique of the slowness of the western Allies, an assessment of the brutality of the Eastern Front, and the book takes a good look at why, even though the defeat of Germany was looming in December of 1944 it did indeed matter that it took another 4+ months to finally end the thing. One of the best of 2004, certainly. Mike | Submitted by Stone and Stone Second World War Books 16:49 on 23 December 2004 | We concur with Mike's assessment. This will almost certainly be on our Editor's Choice list as one of the top books of 2004.
