| Submitted by Michael Lotus 15:02 on 16 April 2004 | | I would like recommendations on the best one volume history of the Canadian armed forces, or of the Canadian Army. Also, any recommendations on exceptionally good books on the Canadian Army in particular wars would be appreciated, too. But I'd like to get a good overview. | Submitted by Stone and Stone Second World War Books 15:15 on 16 April 2004 | If you're intent on a single volume, you might try this by the official historian: Stacey, C.P. The Canadian Army, 1939-1945: An Official Historical Summary. Ottawa: Cloutier, 1948. For a much fuller account, try these three from The Official History of the Canadian Army in the Second World War: Stacey, C.P. Six Years of War: The Army in Canada, Britain, and the Pacific. Ottawa: The Queens Printer, 1955 Stacey, C.P. The Victory Campaign: The Operations in Northwest Europe, 1944-1945. Ottawa: The Queens Printer, 1960 Nicholson, G.W.L. The Canadians in Italy. Ottawa: The Queens Printer, 1956 You might also want to take a look at this: http://books.stonebooks.com/cgi-bin/foxweb.exe/base/subjects?1001656
