This is a comprehensive account of U.S. Navy bomber squadrons which flew the PB4Y-1 Liberator and PB4Y-2 Privateer. News from Gregory Urwin
Gregory Urwin, author of the excellent Facing Fearful Odds: The Siege of Wake Island, sends along this report of his latest endeavors:
"First of all, I have moved from the University of Central Arkansas. I am now an associate professor of history at Temple University, replacing Russell F. Weigley, one of America's foremost military historians, who retired last January. This fall I am teaching, fittingly enough, the department's World War II course. I look forward to directing dissertations on military affairs in the World War II era, particularly those dealing with the activities of the U.S. Marine Corps.
"University of Nebraska Press is issuing a paperback reprint of U.S. War Department, The Capture of Attu: As Told by the Men Who Fought There, which was originally published in 1944 by Infantry Journal. I have written an introduction for the reprint.
"Finally, I hope to complete the research for my next book, Victory in Defeat: The Defenders of Wake Island as Prisoners of War, 1941-1945 at Boston University and the U.S. Army Military History Institute in the summer of 2000. Having to find a new house and relocate to the Philadelphia area this past summer put me a little behind schedule on this project."

World War II Books, Illinois
World War II Books of Monticello, Illinois -- not to be confused with World War II Books of England -- has undertaken the first big inventory update at its website in quite some time. Articles of War
Big changes are on the way for Articles of War. Bob Ruman tells us he'll be moving his operation from Skokie to New Mexico sometime after the first of the year. In the meantime, he continues to offer his "inventory reduction" sale -- hey, any idea how hard it would be to lug his massive inventory across the country? -- through the end of October. Check his latest update; still plenty of titles of available at big discounts. Bob is out of action for the moment but will be back in the office and resume shipping on 10 October.
Old Army Books
At the Old Army Books website, Bruce Halsted has uploaded thousands of secondhand military titles in a wide range of categories including World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Custer, American Civil War, and many more.
