Among the many sub-specializations of the field of World War Two studies is the area of orders of battle. It can be said with some justification that study of any battle or campaign must begin with an analysis of the opposing forces. To a certain extent this can be extended to include the overall size and structure of a nation's entire military force, and there are many researchers and books dealing with the complete OB of a given nation.
In this survey we attempt to cover the most important books about OBs of ground forces for the major powers of the Second World War.
Across the Atlantic
Woolcott Books of Near Dorchester has dispatched its new catalog "Tank". (Their catalogs are never numbered, but named according to the cover illo.) Loads of excellent unit histories as well as more familiar categories of books.

Top Ten Books
We have today opened our ballot webpage for selecting the Top Ten non-fiction WWII-related books published in 1997. The ballot page will remain open through the end of the year, and everyone with an interest in the Second World War is cordially invited to participate in the voting. You can vote for books already on the ballot, or you can write in your own candidates and vote for them.
Closer to the end of the year we'll open another webpage for monitoring how each book is performing in the poll, and at the beginning of January we'll announce the winners.
