Galician Division news Many thanks to author Michael James Melnyk for reminding us his two volume set about the 14th SS Grenadier Division is available from Fonthill.
"This is a new two volume study which follows on from my previous history of this Division, To Battle, published in 2002. For those wishing to become acquainted with the subject, I have included as much new and hitherto unpublished material both documentary and photographic as possible from my archive. For example each volume includes over 100 new and hitherto unpublished photos. For those wishing to use the books as a research tool the text is heavily referenced with in excess of 2,000 extensive and detailed footnotes between the two volumes, to record the source of the information, the overwhelming majority of which comes from primary and verifiable sources. I have complemented these with several new, unpublished verbatim accounts of veterans. "For the first time, in volume 2, I have extended the history to encompass new material on the division's post war fate including internment under British supervision in Italy, the forced repatriation operations, movement to and internment in Great Britain, and recruitment and deployment of divisional veterans into the still classified secret British MI6 controlled programme to send Ukrainian agents behind Soviet lines for clandestine operations and finally conclude with the activities of those who volunteered for secret and highly dangerous mine clearance operations which they continued right up until 1986."

Babylon, oh Babylon University Press of Kentucky will be publishing Wars of Modern Babylon: A History of the Iraqi Army from 1921 to 2003 next year. Given the subtitle, we were excited about the prospect of detailed coverage of the 1941 campaign in Iraq from Baghdad's point of view, so we reached out to UPK for more information about exactly what's contained in the tome of more than 900 pages. Unfortunately, their reply indicates the book will offer little of relevance to WWII: "[The book] mentions the 1941 operations against British forces in brief, mostly as a prologue in just a handful of pages."
