News from Military Bookman
25 August 2015

Anyone who knows anything about collecting military books knows the Military Bookman in New York City was the American epicenter of our fetish, er, hobby until the store's sad demise a few years ago. Now Margaretta Colt, partner in that wonderful more-than-a-business with her late husband Harris, has published her memoir—or perhaps a biography of the bookstore—Martial Bliss. Not exactly an account of wars, campaigns, or battles, but quite possibly of interest to anyone who collects these dead trees smeared with the ink of armed forces. Available from all the kinds of Web-places that eventually drove the much-loved Bookman out of business.

PS: I still remember the first time I tried to order a book and made some kind of foolish blunder, causing me to issue an embarrassed apology to Margaretta. I was much soothed by her quick response, "All is forgiven."

News from Savas Beatie
12 August 2015

We've been eagerly following the progress of German Ground Forces of World War II: Complete Orders of Battle for Army Groups, Armies, Army Corps, and Other Commands of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS by William T. McCroden and Thomas Nutter for seven and a half years. Unfortunately, the latest word from Savas Beatie indicates that after many delays and postponements since 2008, next month's planned publication won't be happening: "This book is huge and a layout challenge, as you can imagine. We are making good progress on it, though. I estimate that it will be released next year, but I can't give a firmer release date at this point."
