News from Pen & Sword
18 February 2013

After the war, Gunter Hessler—U-boat skipper, staff officer, and Admiral Doenitz's son-in-law—produced for the Allies a detailed account of U-boat ops from the German perspective. HMSO published a nice, boxed edition (a hardcover volume plus a folio of maps and charts) in 1989.

Hessler's work, apparently edited and/or annotated by Bob Carruthers, is now being released as a three-volume set by Pen & Sword, with publication scheduled for next month:

Slip sliding away
7 February 2013

Every time we think the publication date is close, the publisher pushes it back again. The folks at Savas Beatie tell us German Ground Forces of World War II: Complete Orders of Battle for Army Groups, Armies, Army Corps, and Other Commands of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS, September 1, 1939, to May 8, 1945 by McCroden and Nutter has been delayed until sometime in 2014. It might not be late, but it's definitely not early.
