Doug Stankey, co-author of excellent books on Luftwaffe unit histories and OBs with Henry deZeng, tells us the newest volume in the series, Dive-Bomber and Ground-Attack Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945, volume 2, has unfortunately been delayed again and won't be published until 2012. Bummer! Another victim, apparently, of economic conditions.

Sargent Shriver—a founding member of the America First organization that worked to keep the US out of WWII who subsequently enlisted in the US Navy and served at Guadalcanal—died in Maryland on 18 January at the age of 95.

Major Richard "Dick" Winters—veteran of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, and the subject of several books as well as the TV miniseries "Band of Brothers"—died in Pennsylvania on 2 January at the age of 92.
