Sixty-five years ago today, on 30 April 1945, as Soviet 1st Byelorussian Front and 1st Ukrainian Front assaulted the city and fierce fighting raged in the ruins of the Reichstag building, Hitler committed suicide in his bunker in Berlin.

Whitney Harris—one of the lead US prosecutors in the Nuremberg war crimes trials and author of Tyranny on Trial: The Trial of the Major War Criminals at the End of World War II at Nuremberg—died on 21 April in Missouri at the age of 97.

Sixty-five years ago today, on 18 April 1945, Soviet 1st Byelorussian Front and 1st Ukrainian Front closed on Berlin while more than 300,000 German troops in the Ruhr pocket surrendered to US forces. In his bunker, Hitler raved, "If the German people loses the war, it will have proved itself unworthy of me...."

DeZeng and Stankey title hits the States

Released in the UK at the end of 2009, volume one of Dive-Bomber and Ground-Attack Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945 by Henry L. deZeng and Douglas G. Stankey has finally become available on the western shores of the Atlantic after "...a four month delay due to a distribution snafu." Volume two, unfortunately, has been delayed on both sides of the water, probably until next year.

Bartsch kindly informs us that his upcoming book, Every Day a Nightmare: American Pursuit Pilots in the Defense of Java, 1941-42, will be published later this year by Texas A&M University Press.
