News from Henrik Lunde Henrik Lunde, author of Hitler's Pre-Emptive War: The Battle for Norway, sends along notes about his current project: "The first draft of my book on Finland's "Continuation War" in coalition with Germany is nearing completion. A focus of the book is on how and why Finland became a participant, the undue optimism that prevailed in both Germany and Finland, the lack of a binding alliance, and the failure to orchestrate war aims and plans. Numerous problems surfaced as a result of these failures and they were exacerbated by problems bound to arise in a coalition between a democracy and a dictatorship. The military operations in Finland are described in some detail but not to the same extent as in Hitler's Pre-emptive War. While the war in Norway lasted 62 days, Finland's involvement in military operations, first against Russia and then against Germany, lasted almost four years."
