Sixty-five years ago today, on 22 June 1944, on the third anniversary of Operation Barbarossa, following a preparatory artillery bombardment, Soviet 1st Baltic Front and 3rd Byelorussian Front opened Operation Bagration with an assault against German 3rd Panzer Army around Vitebsk.
