In memoriam Nathan GordonUSN PBY pilot who received the Medal of Honor for rescuing fifteen downed USAAF airmen from the water off Kavieng, New Ireland under enemy fire on 15 February 1944died in Arkansas on 8 September at the age of 92.

News from Kansas University Press of Kansas has kindly notified us that Col. David Glantz is hard at work on his upcoming Stalingrad trilogy, the first volume of which, To the Gates of Stalingrad: Soviet-German Combat Operations, April-August 1942, is due to be published by UPK in April of 2009.

L. deZeng Henry deZeng, co-author of the well-received Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945 volumes, tells us "...[o]ur next two volumes are due at the end of 2009 and will cover all Stuka (dive bomber) and Schlachtflieger (ground attack) units of the Luftwaffe. These will be considerably more comprehensive that the Bomber volumes and will be in a modified format and style that facilitates readability. We believe these two works will be the definitive reference on the subject for years to come."

This day in history Sixty-five years ago today, on 3 September 1943, the 13th Corps of British 8th Army landed on the Italian mainland at Reggio di Calabria on the same day a representative of the Badoglio government signed an armistice with the Allies.
