Sixty-five years ago today, on 27 April 1943, Subhas Chandra Bose of the Free India movement, having departed Europe aboard U-180, transferred to IJN submarine I-29 while at sea south of Madagascar for the continued voyage to the Far East.

James Finnegan—the USAAF fighter pilot who shot down Adolf Galland in his Me 262 on 26 April 1945 and in post-war years became a friend of the Luftwaffe ace—died in California on 22 April at the age of 85.
