In memoriam Shigeya Kiharaan American of Japanese ancestry who worked in the US Army's secret program teaching the Japanese language to American soldiers who served as interpreters and interrogators in the Pacificdied in California on 16 January at the age of 90. He was featured in Yankee Samurai by Joseph Harrington.

News from John Lundstrom Author John Lundstrom sends this word: "The Naval Institute Press has accepted Black Shoe Carrier Admiral: Frank Jack Fletcher and the Pacific Fleet 1941-42 for publication. The book will probably appear in Spring 2006."
In memoriam Jan Nowak-Jezioranskiwho fought in the 1939 defense of Poland, later participated in the Warsaw uprising of 1944, and served as a courier between Poland and the Polish government-in-exile in Londondied on 20 January in Warsaw at the age of 91. He was the author of Courier from Warsaw about his wartime exploits and also featured in Norman Davies' recent Rising '44.

In memoriam Salve H. Matheson, who served in the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the US 101st Airborne Division (featured in Band of Brothers) and eventually rose to the rank of major general, died in Carmel, CA at the age of 84 on 8 January.
