In memoriam Joe Beyrle, an American who served with the US 101st Airborne Division, was captured, escaped, and then served with a Soviet tank unit, died in Georgia on Sunday, 12 December at age 81. His story was told in The Simple Sounds of Freedom by Thomas H. Taylor.
