Editor's pick
22 November 2004

Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an older or out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. Here's one:

Weigley, Russell. Eisenhower's Lieutenants: The Campaign of France and Germany, 1944-1945. Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1981

Out of all the thousands of books on the western front during 1944-1945, after more than twenty years Weigley's work remains by far the best single volume covering all the ground action and all the Allied leaders. An absolutely essential book for any WWII library.

News from Geoffrey Megargee
3 November 2004

Author Geoffrey Megargee sends word about his latest project:

"The working title is War of Annihilation: Operation Barbarossa and the Crimes in the East, 1941. It's a concise work, aimed primarily at undergraduates and general readers. As the title implies, it will show the connections between the military operations and the various kinds of crimes that the SS and the Wehrmacht perpetrated—in contrast to most of the literature, which treats those two aspects separately. Rowman & Littlefield is publishing the book; it should appear in spring 2005."
