Editor's pick Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an older or out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. Here's a pair: Shores, Christopher and Hans Ring. Fighters over the Desert: The Air Battles in the Western Desert, June 1940 to December 1942. New York: Arco Publishing, 1969 Shores, Christopher, Hans Ring, and William N. Hess. Fighters over Tunisia. London: Spearman, 1975 A pair of seminal works on day-by-day fighter operations in Africa by an author who went on to become one of our most important air historians. The latter especially is difficult to locate and dreadfully expensive.

War Diary There are plenty of WWII chronologies already available on the Web, but we're very excited about our new War Diary project. Planned for unveiling on 1 September 2004, our online War Diary could be the most inclusive and detailed chronology ever assembled, with daily entries for all the usual events plus many more entries such as individual ship sinkings, U-Boat losses, strategic bombing missions, convoy sailings, etc. Not only that, but every individual entry will include a link to a complete bibliography of books covering that specific event. We'll keep you posted as we move closer to Opening Day, but in the meantime you can have a look at a sample War Diary page.
