Editor's pick
9 April 2004

Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an older or out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention.

Stewart, Richard A. Sunrise at Abadan: The British and Soviet Invasion of Iran, 1941. New York: Praeger, 1988

Not many books focus exclusively on the Allied invasion of Iran, but even in a larger field this fine account would remain the best on that subject. Excellent and thorough coverage of political imperatives and military operations, sprinkled with arresting images, and highly readable.
