Regarding a reprint of The Grim Glory of the 2/19 Battalion, Bob Pink sends word from Australia: "Clive Baker has advised that it is being type-set at present and following proof reading it should be in the hands of the printers by December 2003. Editor's pick
22 November 2003

Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an old and out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. Here's one that managed to slip past our radar when it was published last year, but recently fell into our hands:

Rottman, Gordon L. World War II Pacific Island Guide: A Geo-Military Study. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press and Praeger Publishers, 2002

This is without a doubt the single most important reference ever published about the islands of the Pacific in the Second World War. Rottman includes a chronology, maps, historical background on every islet and atoll, data about harbors, airfields, installations, and fortifications, a synopsis of military operations on each island, and thorough reading lists for each. An unbelievably useful reference for anyone interested in the war in the Pacific.
