Editor's pick
8 January 2003

Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an old and out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. In this case, we were doing some research that led to our favorite series of intelligence volumes:

British Intelligence in the Second World War

These five volumes (of which the third is divided into two separate parts) perform the task of re-telling key bits of the British role in the war—already told some years earlier in the multi-volume History of the Second World War series—with added insights about how intelligence, notably Ultra, affected planning and operations. Quite a sterling job, and a series not to be missed by anyone with an interest in how signals intelligence was put to work.
