Editor's Pick
26 October 2002

Sometimes when we run across an interesting/unusual/informative book, especially an old and out-of-print one, we like to bring it to your attention. Here's one, or in this case an entire series, that's not too old but deserves a closer look:

Der Zweite Weltkrieg im Kartenbild

The books in this series have grown better and better with each new release, and they provide map after map with unprecedented detail, including not just German operations but deployments for the forces of Poland, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, etc. The accompanying text is in German, but these books are really all about the maps, so language is not an obstacle. Dreadfully expensive, but worth every penny.

News from David Glantz
12 October 2002

Colonel Glantz tells us he was no longer involved in the Black Sea Inferno book which is no longer on Spellmount's production schedule. However, as always, he has plenty of other projects in the works:

"The University of Kansas Press will publish my long treatise, Leningrad 1941-1944...[later this month]...and in early January Frank Cass (London) will publish my vastly expanded and rewritten two volumes on Red Army operations in the Far East during August and September 1945. This project covers all of the fighting in Manchuria, in Korea, and on Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands based on archival information (both Soviet and Japanese).

"I am presently struggling to complete Colossus Reborn: The Red Army 1941-1943, which I hope to complete by 1 February. Volume six of Forgotten Battles, an atlas on the border battles of June-July 1941, and my book (with Jon House) on Stalingrad wait in the wings."
