News from Craig Crofoot
19 September 2001

Looks like there have been some twists and turns in the road en route to Craig Crofoot's ambitious, self-published, multi-volume Soviet order of battle series. His original volume, The Order of Battle of the Soviet Armed Forces in the Great Patriotic War, 1941-1945, volume 1: 22 June 1941, was released in the second half of 2000 with plans for the next volume, covering 1 July 1943, to be published at the beginning of this year.

In the meantime, instead of proceeding with his self-publishing intentions, Craig arranged for George Nafziger to become the publisher, and the Nafziger Collection in due course released part one of a revised and expanded second edition of Craig's volume one (still covering 22 June 1941), with the remainder of the original material (also revised and expanded) from volume one due to appear later in part two.

Unfortunately, Craig reports, "lightning hit my apartment building and fried my computer (even with a surge protector) so right now I'm trying to rebuild my files."

No one is sure when the series will be back on course, but when publication resumes Craig will have a new co-author, Paul Dunnigan, and plans call for a third edition of the 22 June 1941 volume, with further revisions, to kick off the revitalized series.
