Burgess, Colin. Destination: Buchenwald. Kenthurst, NSW: Kangaroo Press, 1995.
Foreword; Introduction; Australian and NZ Airmen at Buchenwald; photos; maps; Epilogue; bibliography; index.
Appendix: Two poems from Buchenwald
In the summer of 1944 168 downed Allied airmen, previously captured by the Germans while in the hands of the French Underground, were evacuated from Paris and illegally transported to the notorious Buchenwald concentration camp. Although they survived the original order for their mass execution there, some died as a result of the pervasive starvation, brutality, and neglect.
This is the true story of those airmen and their battle for life in the grim death camp.
