Salmond, J. B. The History of the 51st Highland Division. Edinburgh: Pentland Press, 1994.

287 pages
ISBN 1-85821-245-6
Photos; maps; charts; Introduction (51st Division in WWI); List of Commanders; Appendix: Order of Battle; Index

Unit history of British 51st Highland Division in the Second World War (with an introduction covering the unit's record in WWI). Loss of the division in France at St Valery-en-Caux in 1940. Recreated by redesignation of 9th Scottish Division. Operations in North Africa, Tunisia, Sicily, and Normandy to Germany. For the most part this is an operational history at battalion and brigade level without a great many personal anecdotes.

Originally published in 1953 by William Blackwood and Sons, the 1994 edition contains a new foreword but seems to be otherwise unchanged. Used copies of the original can be found in the $100-150 range; the new edition runs $40-50.

Thanks to World War II Books for providing this copy.
